INEC Fixes Date For Election Re-run In Plateau

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Thursday that it had fixed Saturday, July 26, 2008 for the re-run polls in the Plateau Central Senatorial District, following the nullification of the election of Senator Sati Gogwin.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Jos recently nullified the election of Senator Gogwin of the Action Congress. Earlier, an election petition tribunal had nullified his election while ruling on a petition filed by a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (DPP), Mrs. Zainab Abdulmalik.

INEC made the announcement in a statement signed by its director, public affairs, Pastor Segun Adeogun, saying the commission had scheduled the said date for the re-run election.
