Stop Passing Buck,TMG Tells Iwu

05.07.2008

The Transition Monitoring Group,TMG, has rejected the veiled excuse given by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commmission, INEC, Prof. Maurice Iwu, for the imperfection of the April 2007 general elections, saying the excuses are not only mischievous but unreasonable, indefensible and untenable.

A statement signed by the TMG National Chairman, Comrade Mashood Erubami, noted that many Nigerians and their international friends believed that the elections were deliberately programmed to fail, not even because INEC could not organize credible elections for Nigerians, but because of the partisan interest of Prof. Iwu and partial predisposition of other members of INEC to see the outgoing government of former President Obasanjo through its do-or-die anticipatory victory in the elections.

Erubami said it was a blatant untruth for Prof. Maurice Iwu to justify the massive rigging, manipulations and violence to secure political power at all cost in April 2007.

He said Professor Iwu should have known that securing peace through injustice and rigged election was panacea to insecurity, insisting that it was expected to know that there cannot be peace where injustice is prevalent.
