My Super 8 Regrets - Idoko

General manager of newly promoted Warri Wolves, Mike Idoko has expressed unhappiness over the failure of his team to emerge the winner of the maiden edition of the Globacom Super Eight challenge held at the Sanni Abacha stadium,Kano last month.

Speaking with Globacom Premier League during the award night held at the Tahir Guest Palace, Kano, the former NPA Seasiders team manager disclosed that he had set his mind at recording another first by winning the Super Eight contest.

Idoko while recalling how he led Lobi Stars of Makurdi to win the maiden edition of the Super Four in Lagos in 1999, hinted that he had hoped to lead Wolves to a similar victory in Kano.

According to him,"my mission here was to repeat the feat I achieved with Lobi Stars in 1999, immediately we defeated Gateway, I was full of confidence that the feat would be repeated not minding the fact that we were going to play against Kano Pillars, the host.”

The Nigeria Football League (NFL) media committee chairman stated that such aim coupled with the determination of his boys to win the match brought out the best in them as they kept the host's fans on the edge of their seat throughout the 90- minuted duration and extra time before finally succumbing to Pillars via penalties.

Idoko, however, expressed satisfaction with the second position the team placed at the end of the contest stressing that, it was enough to confirm to doubting Thomases who have questioned the team's promotion that it was well- deserved.

"I am a very happy man because the performance of my team here in Kano has vindicated us as far as our promotion to the premier league is concerned and I know it will also serve as a warning to teams in the eliite league that we are not just coming for a jamboree, but to prove a point."
