Ripples at Ibadan Poly over rector’s retirement

THE removal of the rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Dr. Ademola Adejumobi, is causing ripples between the authorities of the institution and the academic staff.

The school authorities claimed in a release made available to journalists that the rector was retired, having attained the mandatory age of 60 for civil servants in the state.

The registrar of the institution and secretary to the school governing council, Alhaji Hameed Adedokun, in the release said “the Governing Council of the institution, at its meeting of August 21, confirmed the retirement of the rector, effective from Friday, August 22.

“The council appreciated the rector for his contributions to the institution, which he joined in 1974 and rose through the ranks before his appointment in acting capacity in January 2005 and consequent confirmation by the governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, in January 2006.

“The deputy rector of the institution, Mr. Nathaniel Adebayo, has been instructed by the council to oversee the affairs of the institution pending the appointment of a substantive rector.”

However, the local wing of ASUP through its chairman, Segun Akin-dele, described the retirement of the rector as unconstitutional.
