Agagu flags off N3.7b stadium construction in Akure

Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, on Tuesday flagged off the construction of an ultra-modern stadium worth over N3.7 billion in Akure, the state capital.

According to the governor, the project which would be ready by April 2010, was awarded to CCC Construction Company.

He stated that the main bowl would be completed with sitting terrace, all covered with provisions for adequate car park, training pitch, shopping arena, medical centre, press gallery and an ICT centre for ease of communication.

Other facilities, he said include tartan tracks of ten lanes, floodlights, electronic score board, a befitting state box (with VIP extensions) modern office accommodation and a host of ancillary facilities.

Agagu added that the contractor handling the project was carefully selected out of a list of 17 contractors that expressed interest in the project, just as he expressing optimism that the contractor would live up to their internationally recognized reputation in the handling of the project.

He said, “The contract for this project was awarded in line with our usual practice, the contractors will be paid substantial part of the contract sum as mobilization, the cheque of which will be handed over to them in the course of this programme.

“To our sportsmen and women, let me assure you that we shall not relent in our efforts to provide the necessary facilities and conducive environment for you to compete and excel. On your part, you must see government efforts as vital investments that must be jealously guarded and protected, while being put into good use”.
